Week 10 Story: Exorcist Parashurama Part 2

The portal to a strange realm (source)

Parashurama concentrated on the mirror in front of him. He closed his eyes and recited the mantras that would grant him passage to the spirit realm. When he opened his eyes he was no longer in the attic. He was in front of a stone portal in a strange swamp, filled fog and the smell of decay. Will-o'-the-wisps drifted through the fog, dimly lighting the area. There was no chirping of crickets or bullfrogs, no call of egrets or heron. The swamp was dead silent.

Parashurama breathed in as hard as he could and blew, clearing out the fog for hundreds of yards. He was able to clearly see a cobblestone path leading (he presumed) out of the swamp. He began to follow it, occasionally stopping to blow back the fog which was creeping its way back towards him. After walking like this for hours, he came to a large abandoned city of stone. As he walked through the streets of the city, translucent human figures materialized before him. They appeared at first to be in pain, but upon closer inspection Parashurama realized they were celebrating and dancing. Parashurama attempted to interact with one of the ghostly figures.

"Excuse me, do you have any knowledge of demons in this area?"

The ghost-man responded joyfully

"Not anymore, today the demons have all left this place! Our years of suffering at their hands is finally over!"

Parashurama was confused

"Do you have any idea where they went?" he said

"I would assume back to the physical world, I'm not sure what their reasons are, but it's none of my business. The affairs of the physical world haven't been my business for, gosh, at least a thousand years at this point." The ghost man replied

Parashurama was worried now. He thanked the ghost man and began to run away from the city of ghosts. He realized he may have made a great mistake. He began to sprint back towards the portal in the swamp, his powerful legs carrying him twenty feet with each stride. In a matter of minutes he had followed to cobblestone path back to the portal in the swamp, only this time the portal had been shattered. He had been fooled, by traveling into the spirit world, he created a rift large enough for the demons to get out, this time with their physical bodies. They left him trapped in here while they could wreak some unknown havok back out in the real world.

Parashurama ran back to the ghost city, this time even faster than before. He knew he had to get back to the physical world fast, most likely the Tavakolis were already done for, the demons growing stronger from their blood. A thought crossed his mind mid-stride, if the plan of the demons was what he thought it was, the entire universe was at stake.

Author's note:

Hi everyone. This story is kinda cheesy, but I wanted to see how many different ways I could re-imagine Parashurama still being in his role as a demon-slaying avatar of Vishnu. This time I thought it would be cool to make him an exorcist that can interface with the spirit world. I think Parashurama because his character is very simple and timeless, and also he's immortal, so you get a really cool continuity with his life, you can just make up any scenario in any time period and he will fit into it. That's all for today folks. Until next time, I'm NitroDubbz.

  1. Hi NitroDubbz,

I really enjoyed your story about Parashurama getting trapped in the spirit world. I also liked how the image you chose for the story showed us the portal to the spirit realm. This is because I think it helped me to feel more immersed in your story. I also liked how you twisted the events around so that we are figuring out along with Parashurama that he is trapped in the spirit world.

  2. Hi NitroDubbz,

I thought your story was very interesting and unique. At first I was a little confused, but your author's note helped clarify some of that confusion. I think it was cool to put Parashurama in a different light having a different role. I think you have great imagination and I look forward to seeing what other roles you might portray Parashurama as in the future.
