Reading Notes: Jataka Part B

Hey everyone. NitroDubbz here. Today is the last of the Jatakas. Let's roll.

The Elephant and the Dog:

This one is very heartwarming. An elephant and a dog become good friends. The dog is sold to a new owner and the elephant doesn't eat or bathe. Eventually they are reunited and live happily ever after.

The Hawks and their Friends:

Hawks are threatened by hunters, but are saved through the combined efforts of their friends. The moral that friends in need are friends indeed.

The Brave Little Bowman:

A short disfigured bowman masquerades as the page of a huge skilled laborer in order to join the king's army. Eventually the praise gets to the head of the big man, and he thinks he can get along without the small bowman, who is the actual one with skill. The charade is undone when they go to war and the big man runs away in fear while the little bowman stays behind and wins the battle.

The Foolhardy Wolf:

Similar to the last story, a wolf is living in the shadow of a lion and becomes too ambitious. He thinks he's way cooler than he actually is and tries to hunt an elephant. He dies.

The Stolen Plow:

One man steals another man's plow. The other man steals his son. Eventually they settle it in small claims court.

The Lion in Bad Company:

A lion makes friends with a wolf who is a bad influence on him. The lion gets killed and the wolf goes back to the forest. Don't surround yourself with bad people.

The Wise Goat and the Wolf:

A goat outsmarts some cunning wolves. I feel like people in India do not like wolves.

Week 7 Story: Art Girl Rescue Part 3

"Save me, Alex!" (source) After dispatching the patrols sent on his tail, Alex made his way back towards the outskirts of the village, to the compound of Samu Al-Hayeed. Moving under the cover of darkness, Alex dispatched guards and patrols using nothing but his combat knife.  Finally, Alex reached the perimeter of Samu's compound. The sandy flats surrounding the high wall of the compound were illuminated by blinding floodlights. Machine-gun emplacements flanked the front gate, and the wall was topped by barbed wire. But Alex knew that defenses are only as strong as their weakest link. He circled the compound, staying just out of the range of the floodlights, until he came to the utility pole that supplied the compound with all of its electricity. Alex reached into his rucksack and produced a satchel charge with a timer, the last of his explosives.
